Overview

Overview

Co₂mmit is a mobile application designed to help individuals track, reduce, and stay accountable for their carbon footprint through personalized challenges and gamification. This project was developed as my Bachelor’s final project, focusing on behavioral change, motivation, and accessibility in sustainability.

By integrating real-time impact tracking, habit-building mechanisms, and social engagement, Co₂mmit transforms eco-conscious choices into an engaging, rewarding experience. The app encourages users to take small but meaningful actions that lead to long-term sustainable habits.

Problem

While climate awareness is increasing, many individuals struggle to take meaningful action due to a lack of motivation, knowledge, or accessible tools. Existing solutions often feel too technical, overwhelming, or disconnected from daily habits, making it difficult to sustain engagement.

Challenge

How might we encourage individuals to adopt sustainable behaviors in a way that is engaging, intuitive, and easy to integrate into daily life?

Research & Key Insights

Research & Key Insights

To design an engaging and effective solution, I conducted user research and competitor analysis to understand the challenges individuals face in adopting sustainable habits.

Through surveys and interviews, users’ motivations, daily eco-friendly practices, and barriers to sustainable habits were explored. In parallel, a competitive analysis of sustainability and behavior-change apps was conducted to benchmark features like gamification, habit tracking, and social engagement. Additionally, an interview with a Brand Portfolio Manager for Bosch Siemens provided valuable insights into how corporate sustainability initiatives are communicated and adopted, reinforcing the need for personalized and engaging approaches to drive behavioral change.
